No Wario at the September 2026 Nintendo Direct, but the Rumors Keep Coming

Wario skipped another Direct, WarioWare D.I.Y. Archive news

Wario fans went into September with real hope and came out empty handed. Nintendo's general Direct on September 9, 2026 ran for about 45 minutes, and there was no new Wario Land and no new WarioWare in it.

It stings a little more because the rumor mill had been loud for months.

What Nintendo showed instead

The big first party reveals were Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D Metroid, and Kirby and the World Beyond, a 3D Kirby game that closed the show. The broadcast came one day after a separate presentation for the 40th anniversary of Zelda.

Some viewers noticed the gaps right away. Smash Bros., 3D Mario, Wario Land and a rumored Super Metroid remake were all missing from the list.

Where the Wario talk started

Back in June, the leaker noarmsandnolegs posted that a new Wario game is coming. They could not say whether it would be Wario Land, but they pointed to Wario showing up more often lately, from Wario World on Switch Online to a Wario Land themed track in Mario Kart World.

The June 9 Direct came and went without Wario too. That show had Rhythm Heaven Groove, Star Fox and an Ocarina of Time remake, but nothing starring Nintendo's favorite greedy anti hero.

In September, a newer leaker called Malo932 drew attention. Kotaku notes this account correctly called a classic Star Fox game and an Ocarina of Time remake before others did. Earlier in the year, the same leaker claimed Nintendo is making a new Wario Land, a 3D Mario and a Super Metroid pixel art remake, all aimed at 2027.

What it means for WarioWare fans

None of this is confirmed. Nintendo has said nothing about a new Wario game, so 2027 is a rumor and nothing more.

A Wario Land revival would not be a WarioWare game either. Fans of the WarioWare series have been waiting since Move It! arrived in November 2023.

Until Nintendo says otherwise, the best way to scratch the itch is the classic stuff. The 90 built in WarioWare D.I.Y. microgames from Mona, Jimmy T., Ashley, Orbulon and 9-Volt still play just as fast as they did in 2010.
